Europavorhersage - 22.02.2018
Wintry North
Unsettled South

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 22nd February 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Very cold, if not bitterly cold late winter weather will develop across northern areas of Europe, milder and more unsettled further south

Thursday
Through into Thursday and a blocking Scandinavian high pressure means that much of the British Isles, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland and many central and eastern areas of Europe, are cold or very cold but mainly dry with some sunshine. It will likely become bitterly cold across parts of Scandinavia with perhaps some extremely low minimum temperatures still possible in Finland and Sweden in particular. More unsettled weather is still, however, expected through the Med with low pressure dominating around Italy bringing further rain and showers, perhaps with local thunderstorms and with additional snowfall to the Alps as well.

Friday
On Friday and much of central and northern areas of Europe will continue to be dominated by a Scandinavia high pressure. This does mean very cold, if not bitterly cold winter weather filtering down out of Norway, Sweden and Finland will steadily progress westwards across Poland and into Germany and many other central areas of Europe too. Much of the British Isles will be dry and increasingly cold as well as an E'ly wind begins to develop here also. Low pressure, however, will continue to be slow moving across Italy and surrounding areas of Med, perhaps bringing some large rainfall totals, downpours and perhaps some strong winds to Italy as well. Some of the best conditions will be across parts of Spain and Portugal, where mainly dry with some sunny spells, but rather chilly.
