Cold with sunshine and snow showers, spreading east
It's a cold start to the morning and we have a front which is currently clearing away from eastern coasts. There will be some good spells of sunshine through the Midlands and eastern parts of England and Scotland. To the west some wintry showers will be affecting the coasts and hills, these being heavy at times and giving a covering of snow.
This afternoon the wintry showers will be spreading into central and southern England, perhaps bringing brief periods of transport disruption due to heavier showers. Over higher ground the showers always fall as snow giving a few centimetres in places. Central and eastern Scotland stay dry.
A widespread frost overnight, severe in the east as showers retreat to coasts.
